不老痴人夢﹐
壽命可延伸。
天生人各異﹐
苦樂在乎人。
積怨催人老﹐
抑鬱會傷神。

養生無妙藥﹐
動體與寧心。
氣功調氣息﹐
甩手靜心靈。
步行多好處﹐
動靜要平衡。

飲食宜清淡﹐
脂糖比惡鄰。
起床先渴水﹐
腸通毒也清。
綠茶真有益﹐
煙酒總傷身。

嫉妒燃心火﹐
寬恕去仇情。
沮喪緣心慮﹐
自責是原因
對人能讓步﹐
心理便能平。

幽默增年歲﹐
冷淡令人憎。
日常多用腦﹐
痴獃遠離君。
何須太偏激﹐
心健出真誠。

人生無直路﹐
處處可通行。
身如山澗水﹐
心似柏松青。
祝君常快樂﹐
長壽又年輕。

Song of Healthy Living

To live forever is but a fool’s dream.
To extend years in life is not as hard as it may seem.
Each person is born with different physical and mental endowments.
It is up to you to perceive each event as a blessing or a misfortune.
Holding grudges all the time hastens the pace of aging.
Feeling despondent can impact your body functioning.

There is no panacea for living healthier and longer.
But you can move your body and calm your mind together.
Qigong exercise can help keep your breathing slow and long.
The hand-swinging exercise can help your mind calm itself down.
The benefits of walking are too numerous to mention.
Try to balance your body with activities and relaxation.

Replace fatty and oily foods with less greasy dishes on your dining table.
Treat foods loaded with sugar as the ferocious animal in your neighbor’s stable.
First drink a glass of water when you get up in the morning.
Keep your intestines free from toxins through water-drinking.
Drinking green tea regularly can be beneficial to your health.
Drinking alcohol, like smoking cigarette, can be harmful as well.

Jealousy keeps your heart burning every day.
Forgiveness can keep revengeful feelings away.
Depression is often resulted from chronically mental fatigue.
It may be caused by repeatedly blaming oneself or feeling guilty.
If you can take a step back toward the other person,
You can neutralize your anger aroused from agitation.

You can add years to your life with a sense of humor.
Indifferent attitudes often keep people away from your quarter.
Keep yourself mentally active every day,
You may actually scare Alzheimer’s away.
Don’t be stubbornly biased or ideologically extreme.
A healthy mind rises by being sincere and genuine.

There is no straight road in your life journey.
But you can always move forward by crossing the bridge.
May your body be like the ever-flowing stream of water!
May your mind be like the green cypress and pine forever!
May you be happy all the time!
May you continue to look young and healthy for a very long time!


臨江仙   歲月可延長

早上起床先喝水﹐ 新鮮菜汁紅黃。 香蕉燕麥遠脂糖。 日行三幾里﹐ 甩手靜心房。 閱讀吟詩常動腦﹐ 綠茶蔬果酸湯。 開懷尋樂每天忙。 人生終有盡﹐ 歲月可延長。

Our Time in this world can be extended

Soon after you get up in the morning, drink a full glass of water.
For breakfast, start with a glass of fresh vegetable juice in
red or yellow color.
Then, eat a banana, a bowl of oatmeal, and other
food low in fat and sugar.
Walk a few miles almost every day.
Perform hand-swinging exercise* to keep your stress away.
Chant poetry and read whatever you like.
Do keep your brain fully occupied.
Follow a diet that is loaded with vegetables and fruit.
Enjoy soups that are mixed with vinegar and spices.
Green tea is good for a healthy life.
To enjoy life and to have a fun time,
keep yourself busy from morning till night.
Alas! Our life will, sooner or later, come to an end
But our time in this world can surely be extended.


*A body-mind exercise in which one passively focuses on the movement
of the limbs while swinging the hands back and forth effortlessly. Before long,
one will typically feel a warm sensation in the fingers.


包袱

負重難前進,荷空步伐輕。

舊痕遮復顯,新跡蓋仍明。

作弊良知愧,害人內疚生。

千斤如放下,心緒便能平。

The Burden

It is hard to walk
carrying a heavy burden.
When the suitcase is empty,
the walking pace can
become lighter and faster.
Old traces may be hidden
but they can be uncovered.
If you leave some new footprints,
they will eventually be discovered.
A person who cheats frequently
will be consumed by his conscience.
One who hurts another with evil intent
will suffer from the feeling of self-blame.
By releasing a burden
of a thousand pounds,
the mind will be at ease and sound.


菩薩蠻     養生

心胸豁達精神好。情懷抑鬱催人老。盡力不苛求。寬容少怨尤。日常多動腦。行樂消煩惱。飲食忌高脂。依時動四肢。

Living Well
(Tune: Buddhist Dancers)

The spirit will be good
when the mind is open and clear.
You may feel older
when you are depressed.
Do the best you can,
but don’t impose upon yourself
undue demands.
Show tolerance towards others
without constant complaint.
Use your brain frequently
by engaging in mental activities.
Seek pleasure to combat
sorrowful thoughts.
Avoiding fatty food and keeping your
whole body active are your daily chores.


菩薩蠻 憤怒之表達

莫名憤怒難平息。情懷激動難沉默。亂踢椅和台。神凶擲酒杯。指桑槐樹罵。怒氣才吞下。發泄鳥飛空。收藏養毒龍。

Expression of Anger

(Tune: Buddhist Dancers)

Extreme anger is hard
to calm down.
It is not easy to keep it quiet
when emotion is strong.
So, he kicks the chairs and tables.
He throws the wine cups to the floor.
He scolds her indirectly
until his anger has been vented.
To express his emotion,
he feels like a bird
flying in the sky.
To suppress it,
he feels like a poisonous dragon
hidden in his mind.

虞美人 自責

有時結果違心願。盡己應無怨。經常自責抑心胸。壯志消沉視野變朦朧。人生憾事時時有。少讓心難受。一江難洗舊時情。付與東流春水滌心靈。

Self-Blame

(Tune: The Beautiful Lady Yu)

Sometimes the outcome may not
turn out to be the way we want.
We should accept it as it is
without undue self-blame.
If we often feel guilty, we will
suppress our chest.
When we are down, we may not
see things clearly.
Life is full of regrets, so don’t make it
difficult for the heart to bear.
Old feelings cannot be washed away
by a river full of water.
So let them flow eastward
with the spring water.


練功

寧神靜立腳分開。兩手緩緩向上抬。

意想清流通肺腑,氣隨疏指化塵埃。

形鬆意順心無慮,足穩頭輕血不頹。

每日運行三十次,春心或許會重回。

Practicing Qigong

First calm your mind,
then stand up with two feet apart.
Raise your hands slowly until your fingers
pointing toward each other.
Mentally think of a clean current that flows
to your lungs and cavities.
As you lower your hands with loose fingers,
let your 'qi' sink to the ground.
Think of nothing but relaxing your body
and allowing your mind to calm down.
Blood shall not be stagnant if you stand up firmly and avoid a heavy head.
If you do this exercise thirty times every day,
maybe your youthful spirit
will be back one day!


身心運動

一江活水絕青苔。宇宙循環萬象開。

血脈流通神亦旺,身軀活動氣能培。

步行甩手舒筋絡,吐納寧心減痛哀。

瀟灑情懷人慢老,逍遙物外病遲來。


Body-Mind Exercises


A river full of running water is
devoid of green moss.
Circulation in the universe keeps
all things on the go.
When blood circulates smoothly,
we will also feel good.
When the body is active, we can
cultivate qi too.
Walking and hand-swinging* exercises
can help stretch our tendons and veins.
Deep breathing and meditation
can help counteract sorrowful thoughts and pains.
We can slow down the aging process by
keeping our mind natural and unrestrained.
Enjoying a free and leisurely life,
diseases will be slow to come back alive.
